Monitor Performance
Once your Edgemesh® Server accelerated site is running in production, it's important to monitor its performance to identify any potential areas for further configuration tuning. Some optimizations may only become apparent once your site is operating at scale.
To accurately assess the improvement brought by Edgemesh® Server, it is recommended to gather around 30,000 page views. Approximately one hour after the deployment is complete, you can start monitoring the Server metrics through the Edgemesh® Portal.
Since Edgemesh® Server primarily increases server-side performance, a good place to begin is by analyzing the Response Time. As the edge caches warm up with real customer traffic, you should observe a significant decrease in server response time, typically ranging from 4-8 times faster. Another important area of improvement is reflected in the Time to First Byte (TTFB) metric. Depending on your site's rendering method (server-side or client-side), you can expect a median TTFB reduction of 20-70%. You can also sample this by using the getTTFB function provided by the Edgemesh® Client and compare cached pages with uncached pages using em-bypass. Each metric reported in the Edgemesh® Portal is accompanied by a video explanation that helps you understand what the metric measures and how to interpret it.
By regularly monitoring these metrics and leveraging the insights provided in the Edgemesh® Portal, you can fine-tune your configuration and ensure optimal performance for your accelerated site.
